Flies Under the Influence Act as Model for Alcohol Abuse

Kyung-An Han, Ph.D., associate professor of biological sciences and director of the Neuroscience and Metabolic Disorders Project at The University of Texas at El Paso, has identified a crucial molecule in fruit flies that helps with reward-based learning and memory, a concept known as appetitive stimulus.

The FIRST Lego League’s (FLL) 2012 Senior Solutions Challenge to be hosted at UTEP’s College of Engineering on Feb. 16 is more than just a fun robotics competition for 13-year-old Aidan Pearson.

Alumna Named Top Innovator and Rising Star in Engineering

Design News and Mouser Electronics recently named the 2009 UTEP electrical engineering alumna Top Innovator in their Rising Engineering Stars contest. As a current applications engineer for Texas Instruments (TI) and leader of the Singlecore Processor team’s smart home initiative, she helps solve a different technical problem each day that ultimately leads to energy conservation in residential homes.

Rubin Center Kicks Off Year with Three Exhibits

UTEP Virtuosi Take Classical Music to a New Level

UTEP’s newest ensemble features a group of players you may have seen and heard, but never before like this. Members of the UTEP orchestra string section are coming together as the UTEP Virtuosi to bring a new dimension to live music at the university. The Virtuosi perform for the first time at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 7 in the Fox Fine Arts Recital Hall.

Shots, 3 C’s Help Battle Aggressive Flu Strain

It’s not as if Armida Ruiz-Martinez likes to say “I told you so,” but circumstances – and a bout with the flu – compelled her. Ruiz-Martinez, assistant director of UTEP’s Human Resource Services office, organized flu vaccinations at The University of Texas at El Paso’s Union Building East in late October for staff, faculty and their families. More than 500 people joined her in rolling up their sleeves for a shot in the arm to protect against the seasonal H3N2 flu
